Welcome to the Library! Circulation Service Loaning Service There are two Circulation Counters open for book loaning from 9am to 8:30pm on weekdays, Saturdays from 9:30am to 5:15pm, and 10:30AM to 6:15pm on Sundays. For details of categories of borrowing privileges, please refer to the Library Regulations 4.b. Books on Reserve All books out on loan may be reserved by request. Users must notify our Circulation Counter for reservation. Users will be notified once the request is available. The maximum number of books a user may borrow is half of their entitlement.. Books on "Recall" Status Books charged out for four weeks or more are subject to "recall" if they are needed urgently by other users. Books on recall must be returned within 10 days. Late returns will be considered overdue. Renewal Borrowers may renew their loans provided that the borrowed library item is duly returned to the Library on or before its due date. Overdue library items are not to be renewed. No book should be renewed if a different user had already placed an "on-hold" for the particular book. Users may have their borrowed library materials renewed in person at the Library's circulation counter, or alternatively via email (lib_renewal@umac.mo) or fax (3978144). Please give the name of the borrower, the library card barcode, Book title(s), and its/their barcode(s). All library borrowers are subject to a maxim of three consecutive renewals for each of borrowed library item. Returns All books borrowed from the Library should be returned to the Circulation Counter on or before the due date. It is the responsibility of the borrower or a nominee of the borrower to ensure that his/her loan record is cleared before leaving the Counter. Overdue Borrowers will receive overdue notices for books unreturned after due dates. Suspension of borrowing privileges will be imposed on borrowers for not replying When the second or third notice is issued, an additional suspension will become effective (2 weeks suspension for the second notice and 4 weeks for the third notice). Borrowers will be responsible for a replacement cost of materials if books are not returned before due date and deadline for books on "recall" status because it will be assumed that materials may have been lost. Loss and damage All users are responsible for loss or mutilation of books and materials. Users will be responsible for the cost of replacement: twice its current estimated price for an original edition and twice the cost for copying service for any copy edition, or payment of a Ptc$50.00 handling charge with the replacement of the equal a lost material. ¡@ Information Services The Library provides access to electronic resources covering different subject areas, including full text databases. CD-ROM Databases Access to the databases can be obtained by following the steps through the campus network: - Click on the icon, "Nal" (Novell Application Launcher) to get to the directory - Select [ALL] to the complete icons of CD-ROM titles or select the sub-directory for a particular subject (e.g. Business, Education, and Humanities, etc.) - Click on the icon (title) that you want - Begin your search On-line Databases To access the PROQUEST database, you do not need any password. Just follow the steps: - Clear your web browser of any previous Proquest direct account, and go to http://www.umi.com/cookiecutter - Click on the "Reset your browser" button at the bottom of the page (for the first time only). - Through the web browser go to http://www.umi.com/pqdauto - Begin your search Standalone Databases There are 3 full text titles (UMI Business Periodicals, Hong Kong Newspaper Clippings, People's Daily) that provide page images of articles indexed. These are accessible at the Standalone PCs in Multi-media Area, second level. Internet Resources The World Wide Web can be accessed from all PCs in Multi-media Area Users may access the Yellow Books of Internet Addresses as well as other university libraries online catalog for Interlibrary Loan Service, which our Library can provide. Reference Consultation A Reference Librarian is always ready to assist individual or group users in all matters related to the Library and to answer questions. Interlibrary Loan Service The Interlibrary Loan Service is a co-operative arrangement among libraries. The loan facilities for the Hong Kong region and overseas collections are available. Academic staff, research assistants, students and final year students working on dissertations or research projects may request for this service. Through the Internet, users may search for materials and titles or journal articles. The Library also help academic staff, research assistants and students to apply for Borrower's Cards or Reader's Cards from academic libraries in Hong Kong. Photocopying Service Photocopying service is provided for library users on the second level of the Library. Users will be charged according to number of copies they mode. Teaching staff may arrange photocopy of journals to be charged to their departments. Please contact the Circulation Counter for further details. Accommodation Reserve Service The Library provides independent study room for users upon request at the Circulation Counter. Library Skills and Orientations Library orientation sessions are organized for new students at the beginning of academic year. Faculty members may also request orientation sessions on the usage of library resources in their subject areas at the Reference Counter. Library newsletter/news The Bulletin Board on the Dynix system provides all Library information, such as opening hours, loaning regulations, and quick guides for effective use of the Library's resources. This information is also available on the Library Homepage through the University of Macau Website.
